The boys heading out on a boat ride.

We went to Lake Wilson this weekend with our good friends the Scotts. It was the half way point between our two houses. It is a lake made from the damming of the Tennessee River. It is located just south of Florence, AL. The boys were in heaven and had a blast. They pretty much swam in the lake for at least 6 hours each day. They just kept getting in and out. They probably burned thousands of calories with all the laps they made in our little cove. They caught quite a few fish right off of our dock and some in the boat too. We didn't spend as much time fishing in the boat as Jeremy and Paul would have liked but it was so hot they couldn't stay out there very long. The weather was gorgeous as it was in the mid 90's all 3 days. And despite our best prevention efforts every one of us managed to get a little too much sun. The house we rented was a little older but was the perfect retreat for our two families. It had a game room in the basement with ping pong and other games that the boys had a blast playing. We ate way too much good food from steaks to brownies. I am pretty sure Aidan survived the weekend on cheez-its, cookies, and smores. When we asked the boys what there favorite part of the weekend was they both said catching fireflies at night. My favorite part was the lake itself it just makes me feel so calm and relaxed. Lots of grilling, swimming, sun and awesome camaraderie with old friends. It was the perfect way to start the summer off and a great way to end our time here in Alabama.

Biscuits Baseball Game

Last night we went to a Biscuits baseball game with a bunch of friends from SAASS. We love the Biscuits and they didn't fail to disappoint last night either. It was military appreciation night so we got to see the F-16's fly by after the National anthem which is always a treat. It was really empty so the kids were able to have free reign which was nice because when they got bored they just moved to different seats and walked up and down the stairs without disturbing anyone. Aidan fell asleep in the 7th inning and stayed asleep all night. Nick stayed up the whole time and watched every second of the game as he loves baseball now. It was a great night with beautiful weather even if the Biscuits did choke in the 9th inning.

Nick's 2nd grade Awards Assembly

Nick's awards.
Nick getting his award from the principal.

Today was Nick's last day of 2nd grade. The whole family went to his awards ceremony where he received an award for getting all A's this year and an award for being one of the highest A/R readers in his grade. After the assembly his teacher had a party in her class where they presented more awards and the kids gave their parents a thank you card they made. It was very sweet. His teacher made a scrapbook for each kid all year long from all of the events they did all year long it was really cool to see and a great take home present. One of the Dads in the class collected pictures from everyone and put them into a slideshow for all the parents which was a great present too. We got to watch the slideshow while enjoying donuts and fruit and drinks with the kids. It was a great way to end the year. We are so thankful that God placed Nicholas into the right classroom this year. Mrs. Johnson was such an amazing teacher and such a blessing to us this year. We are already praying that both of our kids will be put with the right teachers next year. And now it is time to kick back, relax and enjoy summer vacation!

End of the Year Baseball Party

Well this is the only picture I got from last nights party on my camera before my battery died. I didn't realize my battery was that low. I did take some on my phone and I will have to upload them to Facebook soon. We had the most amazing, relaxing and fun evening we have had in a long time. The boys were in heaven. We pulled up and you just see this massive private lake in their backyard. It was so serene and beautiful. All the boys on the team fished for hours. They pulled in quite a few sunnies and a couple bass and Nick even managed to pull in a huge grass carp. Jeremy didn't get to enjoy the fishing as much as he would have liked because he was constantly helping the other kids put crickets on hooks and untangle lines etc. The boys eventually gave up on fishing and they all went swimming and diving off the diving board into the lake. We had a wonderful BBQ dinner and had cupcakes and smores for dessert. Seriously, we couldn't have asked for a more enjoyable evening. It was a great way to end the season. We still have one more game on Thursday night and hopefully we can go out and win one last time.

Kids Fest

Yesterday afternoon we went to Kids Fest in downtown Montgomery. It basically is a huge event just for kids where they had 20 large inflatables, and all kinds of activities for kids from face painting to arts and crafts, gymnastics, karaoke, hula hoop contests, food, zoo animals, and all kinds of kids characters walking around. The boys pretty much stayed in the bouncy houses all day long. Aidan spent some time in the big green gymnastics bus and at the craft tables too. They gave away lots of freebies including hula hoops which have been a hit with the boys despite no one in this house having any ability to hula hoop at all.

Touch a Truck

Yesterday we went to Prattville's Touch-a-Truck event. They had all kinds of trucks on display that you could sit in and honk the horns and move the cranes etc. There were firetrucks, UPS trucks, water trucks, dump trucks, front loaders, diggers, race cars, etc. The kids had a blast looking in all the trucks especially the bomb squad truck where they got to drive the bomb detonator robot. We went to one like this in California when Nick was little which was cool because there were all kinds of military trucks but it was cool to see some of the civilian vehicles this time.

Summer Fun

Well it might not officially be summer yet but school is ending and it is HOT here. Back in the 90's the last few days and it isn't going to change again until after we leave I have a feeling. So the kids have been using the slip n slide lots and now that our pool opened up again we have been swimming up a storm too. Swimming, ice cream, the lake, lazy days......... I mean what more can you ask for. I LOVE SUMMER!
